A Student Run
Tribute to MTC
MUSIC THEATRE OF CONNECTICUT’s School of Performing
Arts alumni announce upcoming performances for a student-run showcase, benefit
and tribute to MTC called, “This Is Where We Began.”
The benefit will have performances at the MTC Black Box Studio located in
Colonial Green at 246 Post Rd. E. in Westport, on Friday June 21, Saturday June
22, and Sunday June 23 at 7:30 PM
MTC
is honored that this group of alumni approached them, excited about the
possibility of performing together again while supporting Music Theatre of
Connecticut. This independent,
entirely student-run tribute is produced and directed by Rollie Hermoso of
Weston. The musical director and
accompanist is Justin Paul of Westport. Both
will be high school seniors who studied and performed with MTC School of
Performing Arts for many years, and hope to pursue performing arts majors in
college. Justin chose the title,
“This Is Where We Began,” from the song, “Our Time” from the Sondheim
play, “Merrily We Roll Along,” as a tribute to the training and years of
collaborative fun this group had together at MTC.
Justin and Rollie worked together on MTC’s first-ever student-run
benefit, “Broadway Bound: A Childhood Dream,” in 1999.
They once again have the talent of Haley Petersen of Westport, who also
worked on Broadway Bound, as the choreographer. Robin Starr and Sarah Bennett, both of Westport, wrote the
script.
THIS
IS WHERE WE BEGAN features 12 MTC School of Performing Arts alumni, a group of
high school and college students who performed and studied together for many
years at MTC. Shelby Donovan of
Fairfield, Joanna Gang and Robin Starr of Westport, and Jason Schwartz of Weston
are college students or college bound. Staples
High School students include Sarah Bennett, Katie Clark, Justin Paul, Haley
Petersen, and Emma Ritter. Joe Berg
of Greens Farms Academy, Rollie Hermoso of Suffield Academy, and Tori Ziko of
Shelton complete the cast of alumni. Kevin Connors and Jim
Schilling, the co-founders of MTC, are faculty advisors.
Reserved seats, to
benefit MTC, are $10 for students and $15 for general admission.
Sponsorships are also available for $100.
For further information about MUSIC THEATRE OF CONNECTICUT call 454-3883.
All proceeds will benefit MTC, a not-for-profit organization and a
certified member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts.
